Mechanism of Action:

Voglibose belongs to class of drugs known as Alpha Glucosidase inhibitors (AGIs). AGIs are widely used for the treatment of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). AGIs delay the absorption of carbohydrates from small intestine and thus have a post prandial blood glucose and insulin level lowering effect.

Indication:

  • In pre-diabetes [Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT)]
  • In Patients with T2DM
  • As monotherapy in patients with raised Post prandial glucose at time of diagnosis
  • Addition to existing oral anti-diabetic drug when post prandial glucose is uncontrolled
  • In addition to insulin when post prandial glucose is inadequately controlled
